About the WorkLink Pre-Internship Program
After a successful pilot in 2024, MLV is expanding the program to more young people aged 15-30 who need support to get a job.
The program supports young people aged 15-30 with disability (particularly those with intellectual or neuro-diversity) to get meaningful work experience with a local employer. As we know, it's incredibly hard to find work experience opportunities for young people with disability. And without work experience, it's near impossible to find paid work.
Everyone has the right to work and those that choose to work, should have the opportunity to work. Without those opportunities, mental health can deteriorate, relationships can become strained and independence is difficult to achieve. At MLV we don't want to see that happening to any young person with disability. Ever.
As a result, our program provides a two-year pathway with high quality support to gain employability skills through a work placement in local industry. Our inaugural industry partner is Frankston City and they have been exceptional in supporting our young people to achieve greatness. The pathway leads to long-term paid employment in the open market.
This program is fully funded by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) where the young person has an NDIS plan in place. Otherwise, MLV does accept private, fee-paying participants and limited scholarships may be available.
Who Should Attend
- Young people with disability aged 15-30 who need support to gain employability skills
- Parents, family members or supporters of young people with disability aged 15-30 that need employment support
- School staff who have young people with disability preparing to transition from school to adulthood
- Disability Employment Service (DES) providers who have caseloads of young people who don't have the employability skills to land a job
- Local businesses - we know how hard it is to find help with certain tasks, plus we're training the future of our workforce, so we're keen to expand our partnerships with local employers 🙂
- Funders and donors - this program is sustainable in its own right, but MLV has invested significantly in its establishment to date, so we are always looking for funder and donor support to maximise this exceptional initiative's success
