Safeguarding and Complaints

MiLife - Victoria is committed to preventing and responding to the abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with a disability in all of its services. We are a signatory to The Interagency Guideline for Addressing Violence, Neglect and Abuse (IGUANA) which has been developed by the Office of the Public Advocate.

This means that MiLife-Victoria will:

  • Adhere to the IGUANA guideline to support a "zero tolerance" approach to violence, neglect and abuse of people with a disability;

  • Ensure that the health, safety and wellbeing of customers of MiLife - Victoria is the paramount consideration in service provision and that customers are provided with maximum protection from abuse, neglect and exploitation;

  • Promote a culture of no retribution in the case of reporting, including reporting of suspected or alleged abuse, neglect or     exploitation or incidents suggestive of abuse, neglect or exploitation;

  • Ensure that there are systems to identify abuse, neglect or exploitation of customers;

  • Ensure timely, adequate and appropriate responses to incidents;

  • Foster best practice through ongoing systems review;

  • Promote an integrated, evidence-based approach to the prevention and identification of and response to abuse, neglect and exploitation, which is supported by ongoing and appropriate workforce development and training;

We promise that every concern raised will be taken seriously and will be treated with the upmost care and respect.
We encourage you to tell us if something happens and we will make sure that if you do make a report your rights will be protected.
